Balasubramaneyam (Maniy) Maniymaran is a post-doctoral fellow in the Middleware System Research Group (MSRG) at the University of Toronto. Maniy was born in Sri Lanka and graduated from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka with a B.Sc.(Eng.) degree. He moved to Canada in 2001 to pursue graduate studies. He obtained his Masters from the University of Manitoba, Canada and his Ph.D. from McGill University, Canada. His Ph.D. work presented a scalable, distributed resource discovery scheme for peer-to-peer networks, that can discover resources based on resource attributes, network location, and bandwidth. He is currently working on designing a universal event description language and matching engine for the processing of complex events. He is also a member of the Event Processing Technical Society (EPTS.) His personal interests include, but are not limited to, photography, reading, movies, bicycling, and electronic gadgets.
